Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski continued their impressive form at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, dispatching No. 4 seeds Lukasz Kubot and Oliver Marach 6-4, 6-1 Friday to advance to their first semi-final at the event. The Poles, seeded fifth, dominated on return for the second straight match, breaking the Polish-Austrian pair five times while winning 53 per cent of their return points.

The win pits Fyrstenberg and Matkowski against World No. 1 Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, setting up an intriguing matchup. The twins dominated the head-to-head series early on, but the Polish duo has turned their losing record against the Bryans into a more competitive one – after starting 1-7, Fyrstenberg and Matkowski have won five of the teams’ past eight meetings. The No. 1 seeds however, have won four of their five encounters on clay, which includes a win in Monte Carlo two years ago.

Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi surprised second seeded Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor, winning comfortably 6-1, 7-5 to move into their second ATP World Tour Masters 1000 semi-final (Indian Wells 2011). The Indo-Pak Express was more successful on return, breaking the Belarusian-Canadian five times, while dropping their serve twice.

They next play Juan Ignacio Chela and Bruno Soares, who advanced Thursday. Both the Argentine and Brazilian had never reached the semi-finals at a Masters 1000 event, which guarantees Monte Carlo a first-time Masters 1000 doubles finalist.
